Motivation: Where can I find some?

How many times have you said, “If only I could find the motivation to do _______”? Or “I just need some inspiration first….”?

There have been so many times that I’ve scrolled through social media in hopes of finding that one video to give me inspiration, I just need ONE, PLEASE, MOTIVATE ME! Only to find myself wasting away hours on the internet, just scrolling and losing what little motivation I had to begin with….

After about two weeks of doing nothing, feeling sorry for myself and wondering why I am not the best pole dancer yet, I got up and trained. I forced myself to put on my workout clothes the moment I woke up, turned my phone off and started doing handstand drills. I like to start with fun drills before I get into the hard conditioning. My training went well. I was a tad grumpy throughout…. I will not lie but, I felt amazing afterwards.

I always thought that I needed to see something CRAZY COOL in order to get my ass off the couch. I needed to be blown away by another dancer online, that is all. I mean, watching talented people can be extremely motivating. I do not think that is the key to motivation though. We all have that within ourselves.

It turns out that I DO NOT need to see anything in order to get motivated. I just need to act, force myself to start moving and the rest will follow. It literally takes 10 minutes of exercise to raise your endorphins, you know, those happy feelings. Once set in motion, your motivation will increase. You will start off by forcing yourself to do some oblique crunches and the next thing you know…. you are trying out that new trick you saved months ago. It works. Now I am beginning to understand why the Nike slogan is “just do it” because you literally just need to get up and do it. The rest will follow; the motivation to do more, train more, happiness levels increase, you end up feeling accomplished, and any failures do not seem as important. Finally, you realize that you had that motivation within YOU and that is a nice feeling. So, stop comparing yourself to others (most of the time that hurts your motivation, and you end up disappointed with yourself), stop searching for that one video that will set your soul on fire and just fucking start.

Action = motivation.
