Travelling dancer tips

Phew, it’ been a minute. I need to work on my consistency……

Today, I wanted to share some things that I’ve learned over the years that has made travelling from gig to gig easier and more comfortable for me. Whether you’re an experienced dancer or just starting out, I hope this can be helpful for you too. If you’re like me (always on the road), you might get tired of the weekly packing/unpacking of everything you need while away from home.

The game changer for me was having a pre-packed tote bin for all of my needs. I have my bin packed at all times and it lives in my basement, ready to go whenever I have work. Inside I’ll have tupperware, utensils, cooking gadgets, spices, dry goods, hygienic products, extra socks, towel, cups, chargers and whatever else I would use on a daily basis (I try to get most things in travel size to maximize my space. It can be a bit expensive to start up because you’re basically getting a second set of everything that you would keep at home. But, this way you don’t have to spend the time wondering if you forgot anything, or doing the dreadful “pack before you leave” bullshit. Now, whenever I travel for work I just grab my tote and costume suitcase and I peace out! Easy peasy and stress free.

Next thing that was very helpful for me was purchasing an electrical burner (maybe 35-45$ at Canadian tire). This has made my time at work so much easier. Because, not every “dancer house” or hotel will have a stove to use and some don’t even provide us with a microwave (rolls eyes hard at those places). The burner doesn’t produce smoke so, you can use it in your room and keep on track with your dietary needs. I personally don’t like eating out all of the time because some small town gigs have little options for food and I refuse to eat shitty fast food on the daily. Now, this might not be a big deal to some dancers but, I thought I’d share this for those who like cooking and saving money.

I hope these little tips/tricks find you well and hopefully make travel a little easier. Feeling comfortable while working is NECESSARY for you to be able to put your best foot forward within the club, therefore; you can make more money. And that’s the name of the game!!!!!

Cheers,

Viv
